It is important that you do a clean install rather than an upgrade. I am recommending a backup in case something goes wrong with your new installation. * Make sure that your hardware is correctly installed. This usually applies to new computers. * Remember to check your BIOS and instruct it to boot from CD. This way the Windows installer is going to run automatically when you insert a CD. Otherwise, it is going to try to access your operating system from your HDD. * You will be asked to put a CD in your CD ROM drive, so make sure that this one is prepared too. * Make sure that you have the right copy of Microsoft Windows. If you have a pirated copy, you might encounter some problems, especially from the legal system sooner or later. Like I said, if you are happy with your current Windows, you don't have to buy anything, as the cost is quite high, especially if you have a few computers in your household.
